Downtown Columbia is fast becoming an area of fun and enjoyment for the whole family. Plans are under way by the City of Columbia to expand and utilize our beautiful Congaree River.

February , 2008 - University of South Carolina Baseball Stadium  - Estimated to be ready for the 2009 Baseball Schedule.  The 6,800 seat stadium will sit on 29 acres next to the Congaree River near downtown Columbia. Construction is underway.

February 27, 2005 - USC selects Vista site for new baseball stadium.

April, 2004 Announcement - First Citizens Bank to build in downtown Columbia their new office headquarters.  The office space is expected to be open in 2006.

August 25, 2004:  Publix Grocery Store will have it's Grand Opening on Wednesday August, 25, 2004 at 7:00am.  The store is located at the corner of Huger Street and Gervais.

Richland County Council is asked to approve a Contract to Purchase the Pleasants Hardware Property for Vista Parking as requested by the Columbia Development Corporation      Yeah  More Parking!

The property located between the Jarvis Klapman Bridge and Riverfront Park will soon become retail, office, residential and restaurant space.  Edens and Avant have agreed to invest in this project known as the CanalSide Project.  The project will use the old Central Correctional Institution on the Columbia Canal. 

Sixteen palmetto trees were placed on Gervais street on Thursday, March 28th.  The trees will honor Doolittle's Raiders.  The trees were donated by Mr. and Mrs. John Rainey.  

Columbia City Council has agreed to pay for projects relating to several streets in The Vista.  The projects will include building sidewalks and curbs, improving the landscaping.  

March 29, 2002 - The Central Midlands Council of Governments is asking the Federal Government for $20 million to remove about 10 railroad crossings in the downtown Vista area.  This is a long ways off but has been a headache for commuters and will be a welcome site.
